Local New York citizens and commuters report World Trade Syndrome, consisting of sore throat, runny nose, red scratchy eyes, headaches, and nausea from exposure to ongoing smoke and dust from the World Trade Center disaster since September 11, 2001 until present. Bad air in the subways, lower Manhattan, and down wind in Brooklyn, make living, working, and commuting difficult. Mental stress added to the environmental conditions makes for an unhealthy combination for many New Yorkers. All New Yorkers have to take care of their mental and physical health as never before.
I was traveling to visit friends in New York and had arrived there
from California four days
before the attack on the World Trade Towers. Now it is two weeks since, and
the smoke and dust is still consuming lower Manhattan. Waiting for the A
train at Fulton/Broadway/Nassau my wife and I couldn't take the air trapped downwind
in the tunnel. We both got sore throats in the short time there waiting on
the platform. She had red eyes and a runny nose by the time we caught our
train.
I began to think of how hard it is going to be for the people most exposed to this dust that consists of glass, cement, asbestos, and sadly, the victims. There could be a health hazard not even considered waiting to happen. My imagination got the best of me, I wondered things like, what if some strange disease gets into the air or water system from all this? The mental stress added to harsh conditions can make people sick, and every New Yorker needs to do their best to stay healthy. I got a box of paper masks to wear. If you or anyone you know needs to pass through lower Manhattan, this would be a great gift, because there's no telling what is in the air at times down there. I've never experienced anything like it ever in my life. I have sculpture degrees in ceramics and metalsmithing. I have smelled many different elements at varying degrees of temperature. This was the worst smell I have ever experienced. Picture a mixture of burnt electrical wires, a bitter dry throat burning smoke, lots of fine silt and cement dust kicked up with every step, and a charred smell. I would only get close enough to photograph ground zero after Thursday night's rain, when the air and dust cleared the area a bit.
World Trade Syndrome needs to be fought by learning more about simple health techniques now. The whole world should take this as an opportunity to decide to learn more about staying healthy in our polluted modern age. Every minute, one American dies of cancer, so it is obvious that we need to learn more about health on the individual level. If you live or work in New York City, it is definitely time to start learning more about good health habits. It is always sad when people wait until they are very ill to learn about health. Live preventively by doing what you already know is healthy, and read more to educate yourself further. I can suggest my favorite books on health, but reading and learning anything natural and healthy will do too. Learn to live and eat well, and take the time and energy to do it.
A great place to start is reading about the easy to use "Clark Zapper" as found in Dr. Hulda Clark's book, The Cure For All Diseases. Dr Clark's book outlines the basics of common ways we set ourselves up for disease, and how to avoid illness by avoiding a few pollutants, and living preventively. In a nutshell her recipe for a good life is to live as old-fashioned as one possibly can. Cook, make, and prepare everything you eat, drink, or spread on your skin or wash with. Home natural recipes are included in the back of Hulda Clark's book.
Dr. Clark has studied common pathogens that set us up for disease. She has listed the frequencies that she found to vibrate and destroy many of these pathogens. Dr. Clark explains that her device known as a Zapper emits the positive offset frequency that destroys a wide selection of these common parasites, bacteria, and viruses. My wife and I have used a Clark Zapper for over five years now for avoiding colds, healing small infections from cuts, and many other everyday health uses.
We were lucky enough to have our Mini Travel Zapper already with us, so we zapped every night that we had to pass through ground zero. Although the zapper could not clear our noses from the dust, it did relieve us both of our sore throats. Neither of us got ill, while those around us had caught colds, and were getting run down. I noticed that the trains had many people coughing and blowing their nose.
I kept dreaming of the towers burning and falling, so I decided to stop watching TV for a while. CNN and MSNBC were freaking me out, over and over watching the images. People all around me were stressing. I visited Maine and Boston friends, and they were losing their minds with all the happenings. I was also stressed because I still had to get on my non-stop flight from JFK to California on the 22nd to get back home after this crazy vacation to NY.
My many friends in New York were getting back to their lives, doing what Giuliani told them to do. Being brave, courageous, and getting on with life. New York is full of the toughest people in the world. I can tell you that they have only gotten stronger, and are getting on with life faster than anyone. I have never seen as many random acts of kindness as I did on my bus trips in and out of New York during these disasters. Too many people have been mentally crippled due to the attacks. If you feel that carrying on with your everyday life seems too mundane or not respectful toward this national crisis, you have to think again. The more we give in and let the terrorists hurt our moral, the more they win. Get out, see shows, movies, spend money. Support American businesses, and try to carry on as normal as possible. Celebrate Halloween because it is a traditional American Holiday, gear up for Christmas as our nation's economy needs you to. We are all in this together, and every little bit less you do reflects thousands of others that are hesitant as well. Our economy will come back as soon as we all decide to live our lives in some regular fashion.
I do not believe in war against any nation as a solution to this problem. I am an ordained minister and believe only in peaceful solutions. I am not much of a politician, as I am more concerned with the here and now. Right now New Yorkers have to live in New York. I am concerned with their health. I am interested in the health reports of the firemen, police, and rescue workers digging through the rubble at the World Trade Center. I would like to see their health reports for the next five years or more. I was only there in New York for a short while and had immediate health issues, so I feel for those that are exposed to it every day. I suggest reading Dr. Clark's book for anyone interested in learning more about keeping their families and loved ones healthy in a world of many pollutants.
